GREATER PENNSYLVANIA MILITARY VEHICLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY The Living History Chapter |
THE HISTORY OF THE GPA MVHS
The GPA MVHS was organized in 1976 as the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the International Military Vehicle Collectors Club. The object of the GPA MVHS is to preserve, maintain and disseminate the history of its vehicles and of their contribution to the history of our country. The GPA MVHS is an affiliated chapter of the MVPA, (Military Vehicle Preservation Association) an international organization. The MVPA maintains a website at: www.mvpa.org
Our membership currently stands at just over 120.
The equipment count varies with the constant acquisition and disposition of vehicles and
associated equipment. All equipment is privately owned and has been restored by the
members themselves.

Jeeps, 1/2 and 3/4 ton weapons carriers, 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 ton trucks and various trailers of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam era comprise most of the vehicles, but unique items such as a WWII armored reconnaissance car, a tracked "Weasel", two half-tracks, a huge Air Force crash truck, a fire truck built on a WWII armored car chassis by the U.S. Navy, and three 2-1/2 ton amphibious trucks called "DUKW'S" may be found on the roster.
The GPA MVHS holds its own rallies, takes part in many regional parades, rallies and shows sponsored by other MVPA chapters, municipalities, veterans organizations and restoration groups such as the Mid Atlantic Air Museum, combining its vehicles with their equipment to provide a comprehensive view of our military heritage.
Our members support the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum in Media, PA. with volunteers, equipment and vehicles for display. We also support the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Battle of the Bulge Veterans by providing vehicles for their members attending parades.
